Loreto Clonmel

TY Road Safety Day

On Tuesday 4th March the Loreto TY's along with the Presentation TY's were given a Road Safety workshop in Rockwell by An Garda Síochána.

The students heard a first-hand account of life after a road traffic collision, Barry Murphy shared a very difficult story with the girls, which he hoped would lead to good behaviour from the students in cars.

Garda Niamh Dooley from Cahir division spoke on the behaviours in a car that lead of collisions on the road and encouraged the students to use their influence with all the drivers they know to improve behaviour.

The importance of wearing a seat-belt was emphasised throughout the day.

The RSA Shuttle bus was also there with the roll over simulator, here participants sit into the simulator and experience a half or a full rotation.  The ‘simulation’ demonstrates how it would feel if you were in a car which turned over in a collision, and the lifesaving benefits of wearing a seatbelt should this occur.  Demonstrations using life size mannequins will also show what happens to a person when they are not wearing a seatbelt.
